Trilogy – Doncaster’s latest hot nitespot – features an interesting lighting scheme, with equipment supplied by Robe UK to installers Willpower to kit out three rooms – The Crest, The Temple and The Chamber - at the new 2100 capacity venue.

The lighting design was created by Robe UK’s Nathan Wan working closely with Trilogy’s owner, Gary Hunt, of Brook Leisure.

In each room, the lighting needed to compliment the room themeing, and also had to be flexible and eye-catching, “It was great to get onboard with and work alongside the interior design team from the early stages” says Wan. The club’s overall design was led by Hunt, who adopted a hands-on role throughout the project.

The Chamber

This interesting medieval-styled space is also the main dancefloor. Currently the predominant musical genre hitting the decks is commercial pop – but it can include any possible type of music from punk and rock to hip hop, so the lighting had to be very dynamic. They took a completely customised approach in the Chamber, with all lights are hung from a large bespoke chandelier centrepiece which Robe UK designed and had fabricated. The chandelier evolved from an original neo-Gothic idea of Hunt’s to blend with the themeing – which includes a life size, fully armoured knight. Hunt was adamant that he did not want people entering the Chamber and seeing a conventional looking lighting rig in the ceiling!

The chandelier is based on three circles of trussing, dropping downwards at three different levels, with a frosted core designed by Wan, and 78 LED spikes. The latter were specially developed by Robe UK to give the structure full colour changing capabilities. All chandelier metalwork and fixtures are powder coated in gold.

Eight Robe Spot 575 XT and eight Wash 250s are suspended from the chandelier as the main dancefloor moving lights, chosen for their wide range of features and functions for the budget. Two 1500 Watt strobes complete the effects lighting picture in The Chamber. Robe UK also supplied fifty colour-changing LED fittings, used as wall downlighters to change mood and ambience in The Chamber.

For lighting control, Wan picked an Avolites Azure - the touch-panel version. In addition to controlling the chandelier lights, it also controls all dimmable house lighting, a set of behind-bar lights and the wall LEDs in The Chamber, plus the effects lighting in all other areas of the club.

The Temple

This is a completely white room. One of the main features is a scenic eye at the back of the bar, highlighted with single LEDs, and with a laser in the middle. The effects lighting fixtures in The Temple are eight Robe MS Zooms, eight Robe 250 XT Washes and four Spot 575 XTs, complete with four 1500 Watt strobes. The lights are all rugged onto pre-wired bars in the very high ceiling, and all equipment is arranged in clean and straight geometric lines. Gargoyles and other ceiling features are illuminated with small LED spots.

Lighting in The Temple is controlled locally by two of the new Avolites Room Remotes, each offering a simple 15 preset button interface. These were chosen to keep the costs reasonable and to offer some flexibility to vary lighting scenes, as The Temple has no lighting operator.

The Crest

For the VIP room located to the side of The Temple, Wan specified 6 Robe Recessed Spot 170s, fitted unobtrusively into the ceiling. These are ideal for the space available, and produce the subtle and understated type of effected needed in this area.

Trilogy has already proved a major success, attracting people from the town and surrounding areas. News has spread fast of the fabulous lighting and excellent sound package (designed and supplied to Willpower by Dare Audio) and the interesting décor, and the club is already a talking point.
