Robe UK, exclusive UK distributors for Robe Show Lighting products, recently supplied Rob Smith of event company Robert Lawrence with a variety of Robe moving lights fixtures.
The first outing for these was a 6 week installation illuminating the Fortesqueue’s "Primary Colours" corporate hospitality structure, located at Lincolns Inn Fields, London WC2 for a full on summer party season.
Robert Lawrence, specialists in event management, and lighting hire and sales, undertook this project for Fortesqueue’s for the second consecutive year. They used the Robe fixtures to create atmospheric patterns, texturing and colouration on the roof of the large structure that accommodates 2200 people, and can be booked either as a whole or in sections.
Rob Smith utilised 16 Robe 250 wash lights in the main area. These were rigged on a 3 metre truss pedestal, paired up and programmed to create a dramatic rainbow wash effect across the entire ceiling. They were also used to add movement and colour across the room and tables later on – as the evenings became more animated!
A Robe 575 Scanner was positioned in each corner of the venue to create gobo breakout wash effects reaching up to the roof, and also on the floor and bandstand area - using the client’s gobos. A further 4 break-up washes were used for general illumination around the room, and also to show off the client’s gobos. Other lighting included 6 Robe DJ scan 250s, all rigged above the dance floor for those disco-tastic moments!
Rob Smith comments: “We investigated many moving light products before deciding what to commit to at the start of the season, and Robe’s proved the most comprehensive, cost-effective, reliable and user friendly solution”. He adds that “The support and after sales service from Ian Brown and the team at Robe UK has been second to none.”
The lighting installation was operated by Adam Harris using a Zero 88 Fat Frog and a Pulsar Masterpiece desk.
Fortesqueue’s Total Events Management set up the "Primary Colours" concept at Lincoln's Inn Fields offering corporate clients a complete package and customisation of the venue by selecting the primary coloured décor, lighting effects, entertainment, table settings and ambiance to suit their event - in a unique space - throughout June and July. With its large lawn and balcony, it makes the perfect central London summer party venue. The structure is also erected in December, to capitalize on the Christmas revelling season.

Lighting designer Andy Webb specified Robe moving lights to be at the heart of his lighting designs for two high-profile pantomime shows in the United Kingdom, The Further Adventures of Peter Pan staged at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury and Sleeping Beauty at the Festival Theatre in Malvern – two of 11 pantos presented this season by UK Productions.
